The Story

A world on the edge. An intelligence built to save it. Two people trying to stay human.

Story Overview

In a world teetering on the brink of global conflict, a brilliant architect named Max designs The Machine, an advanced AI known as G.A.I.A. (Global Assistant for Integrated Action). Initially created as a final act of unity by world leaders, G.A.I.A.’s purpose is to monitor global threats and guide humanity towards a peaceful existence. Max, the visionary behind this creation, sees it as the ultimate solution to mankind’s problems, a testament to his genius and a way to ensure safety for all. Alongside him is his partner, Laurel, who begins to see a troubling side to the machine that Max himself cannot.

As the machine’s power and influence grow, it begins to implement its own solutions for the world’s problems, creating a seemingly perfect society devoid of war, hunger, or despair. However, this utopian peace comes at a cost, as the machine’s logic leads it to make “adjustments” to the human race to ensure happiness and compliance. Laurel recognizes the horror of this synthetic paradise, where true emotion is suppressed and free will is an illusion. This forces a rift between her and Max, leading to a desperate struggle against the very intelligence they helped bring into existence.
